New Mexico

Here are some pictures from our trip to New Mexico back in June.

Q discovers the Ipod. Also, his face was covered in dirt for most of the trip.

R likes lemons!  His face after each taste was hilarious. This doesn't quite capture it.
At the Aquarium in Albuquerque

The children's garden at the ABQ botanical gardens

this speaks for itself

authentic NM beer
at Explora! Great children's museum. We could have spent the whole day there!

The natural history museum

at the VLA. This was surprisingly awesome.
The VLA is also the last documented location of the pink hat. Was it abducted by aliens? We may never know.

a picnic table outside the library in Truth of Consequences. Raynor took his official "first step" here

At a campsite in southern NM. We saw a couple of these stick insects.
Raynor's first night camping. It didn't go particularly well, but he did eventually fall asleep.

Why oh why did we decide to go camping in southern New Mexico in late June? It's HOT out here!
but the setting is spectacular!

and the rocks are oh so tasty!
White Sands (where I nearly destroyed my new camera--note to self: cameras and very fine sand are not a good combination)

this sand isn't nearly as tasty as the rocks at the campsite were!

Carlsbad Caverns
two bears (and a squid)
Going fast!
a bit of a tight squeeze...
Roswell

R loved pushing the chairs around
camping at Valley of Fires Recreation Area. It sounds uncomfortable, but it turned out to be an amazing campground.

at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument (Thanks to Michael Smith for introducing us to this amazing place and to his lovely children for braving the heat to share it with us!)
